Introductions: YOU

Now we want to meet you! If you're interested in the project or definitely gonna participate (a little or a lot) please add a comment to this post telling us a little bit about yourself!

We're especially interested in why you want to do this challenge, the artsy-writingy-performancey-creative mediums you might use and your favorite joke/snocone flavor/murder weapon.

  1. Hello! My name is Alyssa, and I am SUPER excited about this blog. I am actually taking a Creative Writing class in college, and this is really going to help me out! My favorite murder weapon? Definitely a spoon. Spoon for sure.

    1. I'm excited to see your entries! I'm HORRIBLE at writing cohesively, so SUPER respect coming your way. :)

  2. So I typed this really long, self loathing post about why I need art in my life and why I'm doing this. Then I could't figure out how to post it because of a google account or something. So my name is Sarah Q. I just moved to LA and recently graduated college and this is how I stated the most uninteresting introduction paragraph. I'll do acting stuff/writing stuff/movement stuff/voice acting stuff, cause I find those interesting. Also I just like dancing. Hope this post works!

    1. It worked! Welcome! I'm excited to see your entries, movement has been something that has always fascinated me when it comes to art. I've never been able to capture it through my own work adequately, so I'm looking forward to your work. :)

  3. Cierra here. I like artsy challenges, I need them to keep myself in line and keep making stuff. I will likely be contributing mainly poems. My favorite joke is my life. My favorite snowcone flavor is blood. My favorite murder weapon is kindness... or shaved ice machines.

    1. Okay, I absolutely suck at poetry. It's one thing I never got in my english class (my eccentricities make it hard to not have everything rhyme). But I admire the skill it takes to write and the beauty of the pieces. I can't wait to see what you come up with for the challenges!

  4. Hi! I'm Danielle and I'm suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper excited about this prompt, since I'm in a bit of a slump for creative outlets. I'm hoping to do switch it up as much as I can and try to explore artistic avenues I'm not as used to. Time to grow! Looking forward to it!

  5. Hey guys, I'm Kim. I've been out of college since May, and my big girl job and other responsibilities leave me way too little time for art (although if I'm being honest, motivation is probably more of an issue than time). I'm hoping this will be a sort of fire under my ass in that respect. My entries will probably be mostly poems, since that's my primary medium, but I'll probably throw in some music and maybe photography and other forms of visual art.

    1. Ah, big girl jobs for the win. I'm looking forward to what you come up with, Kim, and thank you for participating. :)

  6. While Brittany and Tynan know me all too well, I should probably introduce myself for the people who don't. :)

My name is Kat. I am 25 years old with - you guessed it - a passion for art. But I tend to have this really nasty problem of comparing what I make to what other people are doing. Consequently, I feel like everyone around me is spectacular in their respective fields, and I only feel mediocre at best on most days. Add onto that the fact that I'm working two jobs (up until recently it was three) that make up 40+ hours a week, and you can see it's difficult to make time for something you're passionate about when by the end of the day you're so exhausted you can barely keep your eyes open.

I need to finish the things I've started. I want to find out what exactly I'm passionate for when it comes to art. I want to find my niche, maybe even more than one. I want a lot from myself, and I think this challenge will push me into giving more.

  8. I'm Tina, and I'm a failed artist. No, really. I studied art and writing in high school, did quite well in both, and promptly gave them up in my early 20s when I dropped out of university to get married and have kids. Now I'm 27 with no life direction, so I figure I need something to try and get me doing what I used to enjoy.

As for what art mediums I use, I do a bit of a a lot of things - writing, drawing, handicrafts, mixed media, whatever sparks my interest.

Don't really have a favourite joke or snowcone flavour, but my weapon of choice will always be a large icicle.

    1. I'm so glad you're participating! I can't wait to see your work. I'm gonna do a similar "whatever I feel like" deal so I might look to you if I get lost in it.

      Smart murder weapon there.

  9. I'm Tess. I may not be able to finish all of this because I am in my clinical year at vet school and life is... hectic, but I'll try. You can find my writing/roleplay journal on Tumblr as hollowlegends, and my personal one is inaniloquous--I'll be posting things to hollowlegends probably (LJ was just the easiest way to post and keep anonymity).

I like writing, drawing... singing, but I certainly won't do that for a post. I have no muse for writing on my own anymore, even for short stuff, and I'd like to get that back.

Favorite joke? "A snake with osteoporosis has more hip than you."

    1. Well, Tess is definitely winning in the joke category. NOT THAT IT'S A CONTEST. But I guffawed. Welcome, Tess! I'm really excited to see your writing!

  10. Hi, I found this on the internet, and I'm always really interested in prompt challenges, because I really find them helpful so I wanted to try it out!

I am no good at introductions so I will do this completely by the suggestions...

We're especially interested in why you want to do this challenge:
Um-- I love to write but I often get stuck about *what* to write, so I find doing prompt challenges, especially every day for some period of time, to be really helpful and inspiring.
I'm also currently in my first year of college, which I am finding to be pretty stressful, so I'm hoping this will help me work out some of that!

The artsy-writingy-performancey-creative mediums you might use:
Writing. :) I enjoy drawing, but I'm not really any good. And of course, I'd like to improve my writing. D:

And your favorite joke/snocone flavor/murder weapon:
Well a machete is handy-- can be used for different activities. But also, never underestimate the power of pepper spray.

It's nice to meet you. :)

    1. Nice to meet you! Can't wait to see what writing you come up with for the challenge! And, hey, good luck with the first year of college! We know how crazy-like that can be.

  11. Bweeee, I'm Veronica. ishouldbewhat.tumblr.com

I'm going to try to use 28 to Create to either write/draw, since I don't do enough of either. I'm a barista at the moment, but in March I take on 60 sixth graders just a few weeks before the NJAsk state test. Uhm, wow? I finished my student teaching last December and I'm technically a certified teacher. That's right, folks, 3 months in a school setting and bam! they decided I'm good enough.

    Scary.

I joined because I like making internet friends, and also Brittany is awesome.

  12. Hi, and let me finally introduce myself. I met Brittany through Tumblr owing to the November PAD Challenge of Poetic Asides. I hardly ever use my Tumblr blog, but I chose it for the PAD this time. So:
    I'm Mariya: http://soulmary.tumblr.com/
and am almost 40, married with one child :-D We live in an awful place which we l-o-n-g to leave and have been doing our best in that direction for over 2 years now. Because luck hasn't been with us, I put a lot of time in writing as a way to escape everyday hardship.
I don't know how regular I will be able to do this challenge, as I have a couple of final exams this Feb which happen to be very difficult.
Happy to see so many people around :-)

  13. Hey guise,

My name is Nick and I'm a jazz major at UNT. I play trombone and am trying to get my creative juices flowing as a writer. I'm really excited for this project and I can't wait to see what everybody creates this month!

  14. I forgot to introduce myself here, doubt that anyone will see it, but I'll do it anyway. My name is James and I am majoring in Italian Literature in AUTh. I tend to the art of writing most of the time, but I tend to draw a bit as well, when I feel that I can get something out of it. I participate every year in NaNoWriMo and most of my friends know of my habit to write lengthy works, but also one-shots and poems, freeverse or otherwise. I used to write song lyrics in the past, but I am not as good as I used to be back then. I may try it again this month.

You can find me at http://somekindoflegend.tumblr.com/
    and my works in http://inklingofawriter.tumblr.com/

  15. Hi! I'm Ross. I'm 47.

I listen to a LOT of radio, almost entirely to the Internet streams of BBC Radio 4 (London), ABC Radio National (Australia), www.divbyzero.de (Germany), and Alpha Radio (Sofija, Bulgaria). [None of these are anything like any form of American radio.]

I get lost for hours in things like the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary (SOED), any of the dozens of specialized Oxford Paperback Reference series, or things like Liddell and Scott's Complete Greek-English Lexicon.

I used to write software, design computer systems, and stuff like that for a living. Now I design and print t-shirts for people. The techno stuff pays better, but the t-shirt thing doesn't destroy your soul.

  16. Hi Brittany, Tynan, and all!

I am Annmarie Lockhart, editor of vox poetica (an online salon dedicated to bringing poetry into the everyday) and the publisher of Unbound Content (an independent press devoted to poetry). Enduring winter (which I hate) and my kids (whom I love) takes a toll on my creative energy, so I'm really happy to be part of this! Thank you all for bringing this project to life!
